Well, let's start with the basics. As of now, 'Shadows of Divinity' is
the working title of this project, which happens to be a fully featured
Role Playing Game in development by us, an amatuer group of guys (and
gals). The game is ultimately being designed for a Playstation 2 platform, with porting possibilities. For more
information, you can email me at [email protected].
While the game itself is still in the early stages of development, the
following is certain.
We're currently striving toward a somewhat unique battle system, in order to differentiate from the universal 'Final Fantasy' system. The player is offered a field of battle, and the characters and enemies are placed upon the field. The PC's must move around by themselves and attack enemies using various commands. Attack an enemy from behind, then do double damage. However, if an enemy attacks you from behind, watch out.
The magic system works quite simply. Each character
is given a certain number of spells/techniques. They must earn SP (Spell Points) in order to learn and use said spells/techniques. However, additionally, if character A earns enough TP (Team Points) with Character B, then they can do combo spells using that characters main element and their own. With enough TP, characters will be able to do triple, even quadruple combos.
The best description for the character 'Breaking Point' would be to
compare it to the Limit Breaks/Trance/Overdrive abilities of the Final Fantasy series, however they
differ slightly. While a desperation move, the Breaking Point is more of a
final attack before losing consciousness. Each character has two different
breaking point moves.
Weapons System
In most popular Role Playing Games, the main character is given one
main weapon. His or her only chance for upgrading is to buy a new one of
the same type, or upgrade his or her existing weapon. Isn't it annoying
when you find you must go extremely far out of your way to get a weapon
from a chest, only to find out that it's not usable by anyone in your
party? Therefore, we have decided to take a different approach. Any weapon
can be used by any one of the characters, although we have enabled a
proficiency chart. A character will start the game with at least %50
proficiency with a particular weapon, and it is the choice of the player
whether or not he or she wishes to change, however, a character with 0%
proficiency will, quite literally, be horrible with that weapon. However,
practice makes perfect, and any character can reach %100 proficience with
any one, or more of the weapons.
[Section Four: Mini-Games]
The Card Game
While still in development, the SoD card game will me remeniscent of
popular real life card games like Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, or Legend
of the Five Rings.
The Races
Basically like an actual horse race, except you may own your own horse(s) and build them up to race in several competetion levels.
The Dice
I know it's a cliche, but as of right now, this game isn't a main worry. It will be for money-making purposes only, however.
Gladiator
Bet on two monsters/humans/chickens, win money. Simple enough. (The original name for this game was to be 'Cockfighter', but I was forced to change it. *shrug*
Street Battler
A mini-game reminiscent of Street Fighter or the Tekken series. Basically, you can use your own characters to battle others, or even other characters within your group. I've always wanted to see this in a game, myself. The bonus? See the characters in better detail and more movement. :)
[Section Five: World]
History
Two thousand years ago there was a war so powerful and great, that it
eliminated an entire race. The Crimson wars of Holy times, where the
shadows of hell and the divine souls of heaven met upon their
battlefield-- Earth. The race, known only as the Ancients, were forced
into slavery, or slaughtered unconditionally by either side. But the
legends say that some survived. Some of the ancients were able to escape
to their castle above the clouds and thrive. Even today.
But now there exists another dilemma. Almost sixty years ago, a young
woman was born into a wealthy family. To the horror of the family, and of
the entire watching world, it was discovered that the child had
remarkable, yet frightening abilities... The child could control a force
that could only be described as magic.
The worldwide impact was instantaneous. It was soon found that there
were other Deviants, nicknamed 'Deves' by the masses, being born from
normal human families. It didn't take long for the governments to organize
their own task forces, to oppress these frightening, inhuman creatures.
For sixty years, the Deves have been opressed. Forced into rehabilitation
colonies, taken from their families, and often slaughtered for no good
reason.
Today, not much has changed. The Deves are still being forced into the
camps, while the public remains indifferent. To them, the rehabilitation
camps are nothing more than what it seems. A place where the evil Deves
can learn to become humane. Where evil won't taint their souls, as they
already have. And, upon release, they are given jobs of servitude.
But to Deves, the camps are nothing more than a carefully shrouded
death sentence. The ones who do get out have the brain power of no higher
being than a mouse.
However, to those who know, to those who aren't completely oblivious to
history, and its tendency to repeat itself, the emerging of the Deves is
nothing more than a warning. The Crimson Holy War was not resolved all
those years ago, and that could only mean one thing...
...it will return...
Politics
The several continents of Gaia, the world in which this story takes
place, are seperated by several kingdoms, city-states and republics. The
largest world power is the country of Ballad, on the northern continent. A
monarchy, it has been in power for longer than three hundred years, and
one of the first to appoint a Deve task force, and allocate a camp. Other
countries soon followed in suit.
Most countries are anti-deviant. With the exception of one country,
Colridge, in which Deves are supposed to be able to remain free. However,
the country is largely opressed and is often subject to invasion and
attack by one of the surrounding countries.
There are numerous ruins the world over, most are thought to be cities
of the ancients, while some are most definitely bases of war between the
Shadows and the Divine ones.
[Section Five: Characters]
Cera Flightstorm
An escapee of a faraway Deve camp. She made her way to the forests of
Bellows, because it was widely known as a Deve-free area, with no
currently active camps nearby. She is an opportunist, and is willing to
cut throats to protect herself, however she loathes having to do so, even
to naturals. She is suffered by nightmares of her time in the camp, and
often acts according to an oath she made to her friend, who still lies
under the jurisdiction of a foreign camp. She is quite prolific with her
aim using a crossbow.
Tamara Seiryusen
A talented and rather rogue bounty hunter Deve, who relies more on her
own emotions than anything else. At first glance, this woman seems the
gruff type. On the surface, she appears to hate naturals beyond belief,
and goes so far to ignore pain among the naturals. However, underneath she
proves what she cares for, by saving the life of a innocent natural by
giving up her own bounty. Who she works for and why is kept under wraps,
until Tamara finds herself in a situation that rivals any other she's been
in. Her weapons of choice is the Glaive.
Alanna Banten
Jiao's twin sister and Cera's friend. She manages an escape with the
help of the team. Although she is ecstatic to see her friend and brother,
there is something else, deeper inside, that she cannot shake off. She
often goes missing for a certain amount of time, only to return without
memory of where she had been, or what she had been doing. Her weapon of
choice, through more of a natural talent than trained talent, is the
nunchucks.
Tierna Landlock
A thief of high calibre. Although she's a deve, she doesn't have any
ill will towards humans, or Deves. She robs them both blind, given the
chance. Also a bit flighty, she tends to attach herself to any good
looking man, no matter what his lifestyle. When she meets Jiao, she
attaches herself to him right off the bat, sending Cera into fits of
jealousy. But no matter how she acts, she is extremely friendly, when
she's not robbing you blind. She and Cera soon start holding a special
bond.
Sai Ayukuwa
A calm, collected man at the top of the Ballad High Council. Also a
puppetmaster of sorts, working for Judas Roshein. He has two lackeys who
do his dirty work, but hunting down rogue Deves. He does not hold grudges,
but he does do what money and power demands of him. He does not betray
anyone who he works for, either. He is a man of honour, and uses his
weapons as his only defense. However, his weapons are more magical in
nature than anything else. He uses the katana, and knows Markus from the
past.
